The photo report of the photography competition named after Lt. "Rej"
entitled "My picture taken at the celebration of the 75th Warsaw Uprising anniversary"


          It was July 2019 when the 1944 Warsaw Uprising Remembrance Association and the YouTube channel called "The Unnamed Photography Programme" (www.youtube.com/programbeznazwy) announced the photography competition named after Lt. "Rej", the soldier of the Home Army assault group "Krybar". The competition entitled "My picture taken at the celebration of the 75th Warsaw Uprising anniversary" was held under the auspices of the Warsaw Insurgents' Association. The competition owed mass media patronage to the quarterly newspaper of the Warsaw Insurgents' Association, i.e. "Powstaniec Warszawski" ("The Warsaw Insurgent") and the www.sppw1944.org website.
          Lt. Jan Styczyński a.k.a. "Rej" (1917-1981) was a messenger of the Home Army Headquarters' Secret Service. During the Uprising he was fighting in the gendarmerie platoon of the Home Army assault group "Krybar". After the WW II he professionally dealt with photography. His pictures of animals made him famous. He also used to take beautiful portraits of artists, pictures of Warsaw and other cities.

          Each contestant was to send one or several pictures taken at the celebration of the 75th Warsaw Uprising anniversary, between July 29, 2019 and October 2, 2019. The detailed rules of the participation were described in the Terms of the Competition. Those willing to take part in the competition were supposed to send their pictures until October 7, 2019. The results were to be announced by the end of October 2019.

          The pieces of valuable photography equipment awaited for the competition winners:

          an award for the 1st place winner was a Nikon D5600 camera;



          an award for the 2nd place winner was a Nikon Coolpix A1000 camera;



          an award for the 3rd place winner was a Epson Eco Tank L 850 printer;



          Two honourable awards were provided: a Wacom Intuos S bluetooth graphic tablet and a Wacom Intuos S graphic tablet.



          The Jury was also supposed to choose upon a special honourable award for a picture "A Portrait of the Insurgent": an Epson Eco Tank L 850 printer.



          On October 28, 2019 the Jury members met and deliberated. The Jury members: Mr. Krzysztof Gierałtowski, Mr. Paweł Duma and Mr. Piotr ¦miłowicz estimated the pictures that had been sent over. The President of the Jury Mr. Krzysztof Gierałtowski is a photography artist and son of Captain Stanisław Gierałtowski, the one who was the Chief of the Maltański Hospital in 42 Senatorska street during the Warsaw Uprising.



          After a discussion the Jury stated as follows,

          The 1st place went to Marcin Ku¶mierski for a picture "The 75th Warsaw Uprising anniversary" (The Warsaw Insurgents' Cemetery, August 5).




          The 2nd place went to Anna Piwowarska-Sosik for a picture "The flag" (Cracow, August 1).




          The 3rd place went to Piotr Baran for a picture "The W hour" (The Daszyński Roundabout, August 1).




          The 1st honourable award went to Kacper Krzywoń for a picture "Rise up" (The Daszyński Roundabout, August 1).




          The 2nd honourable award went to Anna Piwowarska-Sosik for a picture "The flag" (Cracow, the Mariacki Square, August 1).




          A special honourable award for a picture "A Portrait of the Insurgent" went to Marcin Ku¶mierski for a picture "Zbigniew Daab a.k.a. Kapiszon" (Pociecha, September 8).




          On November 22, 2019 in the exhibition room of the Warsaw Insurgents' Association in the 22 Długa street in Warsaw the awards and honourable awards were handed over to the present laureates by the Association Chairman Mr. Maciej Białecki who congratulated them cordially.








          The absent winners received their awards by post mail.

          The main character of the picture "A Portrait of the Insurgent" Mr. Zbigniew Daab a.k.a. "Kapiszon", during the Uprising a soldier of Lt. "Gustaw" company in Reduta Ochota, participated in the meeting.



          The meeting's participants noted that the competition realized its hopes and ought to be carried on in the future.
