The photo report of unveiling a plaque commemorating a heroic action taken by the Home Army "Torpeda" platoon in Ursus

          It was January 13, 2023 when in Ursus, 20 Traktorzyści street, a commemorative plaque of a heroic action taken by the Home Army "Torpeda" platoon 78 years ago was unveiled.



          The solemnity gathered the authorities of the Ursus district: its mayor Mr. Bogdan Olesiński, his deputies Mr. Wiesław Krzemień and Mr. Kazimierz Sternik, Mrs. councillor Wanda Kopcińska, as well as the 1944 Warsaw Uprising Remembrance Association representatives Mrs. Małgorzata Stańczyk and the Association Chairman Mr. Maciej Białecki.



          The following schools' colour guards were present: 2 Primary School named after John Paul II, 4 Primary School named after Władysław Broniewski, 11 Primary School named after I Kościuszko Division Soldiers, 382 Primary School named after the Children of Warsaw, 282 Primary School named after Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and 56 Secondary School named after Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki.
          A guard of honour was formed by the representatives of the Association "Radosław" Historic Group.



          The action taken by the Home Army "Torpeda" platoon of "Miotła" battalion soldiers commanded by Kazimierz Jackowski a.k.a. "Torpeda"was performed at night January 13/14, 1945 and later described in detail by the platoon soldier Jan Romańczyk a.k.a. "Łata". Thanks to heroism of the "Torpeda" soldiers the "Ursus" production floors survived till the liberation of Warsaw almost untouched.

          The commemorative plaque could be unveiled thanks to the efforts that the 1944 Warsaw Uprising Remembrance Association had made.
